Memorial Scholarship

The Greenfield Township Baseball Association (GTBA) Memorial Scholarship was established in 2019 and created in memory of volunteers who have worked with the Greenfield Township Baseball Association. These volunteers have spent countless hours enriching young ball players and offering the opportunity for children and families to forge lifelong memories and have positive experiences both on-and-off the field.

In our inaugural year, we recognized Laura Mayer for volunteering her time coaching and working to always prepare the field for the season.

This scholarship proudly assists baseball players, whom will have graduated from GTBA and Lakeland High School Baseball, to further their college education.

Greenfield Township Baseball Association Memorial Scholarships have been awarded to Timothy McGrane and Blake Snyder this year. Congratulations to both Timothy and Blake, we wish you the very best on your future endeavors at Penn State and Lackawanna College.

Sgt. Eric W. Slebodnik

The sports complex was named in honor of Sgt. Eric W. Slebodnik, a resident of Greenfield Township, who died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when his M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle was attacked by enemy forces using indirect fire. He was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division, New Milford, Pennsylvania. Sgt. Slebodnik died on September 28, 2005 and the Sports Complex was dedicated in his name on September 30, 2006.

As parents and coaches it is important for us to share with our children the story of Sgt. Slebodnik so they will know how his sacrifice allows us the freedom to enjoy playing baseball here in Greenfield Township.

The GTBA honors Sgt. Slebodnik by working with the Greenfield Township Supervisors to make lasting improvements to the sports complex so that children will always have a place to play in Greenfield Township.

You too can support Sgt. Slebodnik by making a donation to the Eric Slebodnik Memorial Scholarship for History which has been set up in his honor at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
